Art Nouveau Final Product

This is our final project in Art this semester and I'm quite proud of it. The theme was art nouveau, so we had to incorporate lots of color, swirls, smooth edges and use space wisely while doing this project. The challenge was to make it filled up with design, but not make it look like it was to busy and chaotic. I choose to make my art nouveau project based on the seasons/nature. I loved using the scratch board in this project, since you could make so many cool looking designs. Besides using the scratchboard, I glued on some colored paper that I cut out and myself. The trick about art nouveau is that we are only showing our skin. I couldn't paste on the hair or my clothing from the original picture, instead i had to use the scratchboard or paper to make my body and hair part of the design.

As a reflection for the whole class, I really enjoyed it, and I wish it was longer. I found it as a nice relaxation period where I could just be creative, and free minded. I like that I was able to explore a couple different types of art this semester, but I'm looking forward to seeing more in the next couple of years. I have to say the art nouveau project was the most challenging, but it was fun none the less. My favorite was the stipple project though. I was absolutely amazed that I could actually create a legit looking replica of a picture/person with just dots.

Fina Stipples

This is my Edward Scissorhands Stipple. I am very proud of the final product, considering my 1st draft didn't look much like the original picture. I choose Edward Scissorhands as my Hero for this project because although he is seen as a creep or monster, he is still sweet and tries to do good. Edward Scissorhands is one of my favorite films and I really enjoyed stippling him. This piece is completely dots, as with my Draco one has some crosshatching. I think I could have improved more on the face. Compared to the last draft I did, the face looks a lot better, but not as good as I would hope. I would have also liked to improve on the random white circles on him. They didn't come out as very neat circles, and even some of them you can't see. But I have to say I am very proud of this stipple!

Draco Malfoy is personally my favorite character in the Harry Potter Series, but he is seen as a villian in many cases. I can agree that he is a villian in the Harry Potter Series as well. I choose him as my villian, not because I hate him, but because of his role in the series. It was really difficult to stipple his hair since it was layered. There was also this realy weird shading on his hand that I tried to do while still trying to make it look like a hand. In the Edward Scissorhands stipple, I just used dots. As with Draco, I did some cross hatching. Around his arm you can see inside his cloak, so I curved the lines to make it look like you are looking into it. I wish I did better on the eyes. The eyes don't look much like the original picture, but I couldn't capture them very well. All in all, I thought it came out pretty good.
